Our Team
We are pleased to introduce the team at TrueConnect Counselling!
Heather Damhar, BA, BSW (Hon), RSW
Founder and Therapist
​​Heather Damhar BA, BSW (Hon), RSW has a wealth of knowledge, extensive mental health and addictions training, and counselling after nearly 15 years’ experience.
Heather has a strong passion and honour working with those struggling with substance use disorder(s), helping survivors of sexual assault, mental wellness concern(s), working with persons who are 2SLGBTQIA+, gambling, those experiencing high conflict divorce, abuse, anxiety and stress, body image, care giver burnout, depression, individuals suffering from (prolonged) loss, developing and increasing self-confidence, establishing/maintaining boundaries, developing individually tailored coping skills, and assisting those who struggle with processing, understanding and/or regulating anger, etc.
In 2024 alone, Heather has completed a variety of continuing education courses, training, and workshops such as:

Heather is non-judgmental and practices from a harm reduction approach. Her strong client-centered approach is the focus during therapy. She also has a background in working with survivors of sexual assault as well as Victim Witness.

Heather has contracts with EFAP's Homewood Health as well as Sexual Violence NB.
She aspires toward completing her master’s in social work.

Heather feels that no one should have to wait to receive help, it should be affordable, and she wants to fix those barriers.
Gabby Urgel, BA, BSW, RSW
Therapist
Gabby Urgel is a passionate registered social worker committed to enhancing the mental well-being of her clients through evidence-based therapeutic methods. With more than five years of hands-on experience, she specializes in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Gabby uses these techniques to help individuals navigate emotional challenges, develop coping skills, and build resilience.
She earned her social work degree from St. Thomas University, where she gained a solid foundation in mental health and social work practices. Gabby is always eager to learn more and stay updated on therapeutic techniques, which enables her to offer compassionate and effective support to those who need it most.
In her therapy sessions, Gabby creates a warm and safe space, encouraging clients to freely explore their thoughts and feelings. Her friendly approach and deep empathy make her a trusted partner for anyone dealing with mental health issues. Gabby also has received Naloxone training.
When she's not working, Gabby loves to dive into various hobbies that spark her creativity and help her relax. She enjoys quality time with her dog, Phantom. In her free time, you'll often find her immersed in video games, appreciating both their captivating stories and strategic challenges. She's also a fan of crafting, where she expresses her creativity through projects that bring her joy..
